SFO runway expansion

Under the current plan the expansion of San Francisco International Airport will result in 600 acres of the San Francisco Bay, directly off the Burlingame coastline, being filled in. (click here to see a satellite image of the proposed expansion).

This plan is strongly opposed by many local groups including the San Francisco Boardsailing Association, Save the Bay and the Coyote Point Yacht Club. According to scientists, the proposed expansion will be an ecological disaster and completely alter the ecosystem of the San Francisco Bay for the claimed benefit of decreased air traffic delays and safety.
