Burlingame City Councilor Cathy Baylock - Putting Burlingame First

Issues

When I first ran for Burlingame City Council twelve years ago my core beliefs drove me to begin a public discussion about development issues and open government in our town.  Many of the same issues that caused me to run as an unknown in 1997 are still with us today.  But my perspective of looking at issues through the eyes of local residents, neighbors and parents has not changed after serving two terms on the Council.

We have made great progress in some areas like:  keeping the Easton Branch library open, working with Peninsula Hospital to get a neighborhood-friendly new hospital and approving a new Humane Society facility.  We have added pedestrian signals at dozens of intersections in town and a more open approach to downtown development with active dialog.  I am particularly proud of how, as mayor, I guided the Burlingame Avenue train station project to such a successful result.

But yet one still hears about people talking about discontinuing the 35 foot “conditional use” height limit in downtown, dismissing the idea that many buildings in Burlingame are historically significant or even taking private property to build larger off-ramps for the Bayshore freeway!  I am your advocate and watchdog on these issues.

I hope you will support my re-election and sign on to help the campaign so I can continue to represent your interests and  keep Burlingame a city we can be proud to call home.
