BURLINGAME, CA (September 14, 2009) – Cheers of “Count on Cathy” rang out from a crowd of nearly 100 enthusiastic supporters who congregated at the home of Pat and Bob Giorni, longtime Baylock supporters, to hear Vice Mayor Cathy Baylock kick-off her 2009 re-election campaign.  The crowd was introduced to Assemblyman Jerry Hill, David Burruto from Senator Leland Yee’s office, Burlingame Councilman Jerry Deal, SMUHSD trustee Dave Pine, and  Burlingame commissioners representing all commissions.  Former Councilman Russ Cohen reminded the crowd of Cathy’s accomplishments including successful negotiations with Caltrain, saving the Easton Library, Safeway’s new plans, passing Measure A and guiding the Peninsula Avenue interchange design to a neighborhood-friendly conclusion.

“We’ve come a long way!” Baylock told supporters, recalling the late ‘90s spent as a young Washington School mother and budding neighborhood activist with a passion for the town. “I am so humbled and gratified by the support you’ve shown me over the years, and will continue to be your advocate as we navigate through tough times,” she said, referring to the invaluable experience she gained as bank manager in Burlingame and as treasurer of various for-profit and non-profit organizations.

“It speaks volumes”, Baylock said, “when our list of achievements is as broad and detailed as in the last four years. It means we are doing something right!”

“The High Speed Rail corridor is of great concern to me,” she said. “I plan to continue fighting any attempt by outsiders to physically divide the charming town that we love,” she said, citing what has become a cornerstone of her campaign. “In Burlingame, there is no ‘wrong side of the tracks’” she said, “and I intend to keep it that way.”

Pointing to city-wide improvements, Baylock remarked, “We’ve started to work on our infrastructure again: the storm drain improvements, obtaining grants to help fund new bike lanes and pedestrian bridges for safer passage in and out of town. We’re repaving streets and have been planting hundreds of large canopy street trees that will contribute greatly to Burlingame’s Urban Forest.”  Baylock noted that her work on the County level had brought more than $300,000 of new grant money for bicycle and pedestrian improvements in town including the recently completed bike lane on Howard Avenue.

“We are moving forward as our economics will allow” Baylock proclaimed thoughtfully.

As Pat Giorni lifted her glass in a toast to Cathy, she proudly proclaimed, “We Can Count on Cathy!”

Supporters were advised to visit www.baylock.com and the “Cathy Baylock Re-election Team” Facebook page to see photos of the event and voice their continued support.
